• Roundtable: Why would you publish preprints? What is the impact on the future publication of an article? (2022)

This roundtable focuses on the posting of preprints on preprint servers. A preprint is the draft version of an article that has not yet been submitted to a journal for publication. Posting preprints is an increasingly common practice in some disciplines such as psychology, physics, social sciences, etc. Many disciplinary preprint servers have been set up since arXiv was first established in 1991. Why should a researcher post a preprint on a server? What are the advantages? Is there a risk that other researchers will appropriate your results? Can this draft article still be submitted to a journal for publication?
