What exactly is Brussels? A (mostly) pedestrian municipality? The capital of Belgium (or Europe)? The City of Brussels is not the same as the Brussels-Capital Region, which in turn is not the capital of Belgium. But then, what do we call Brussels?

In this section, we will take a closer look at the complex institutional, geographical and historical realities that are experienced every day in Brussels... and which are far from obvious.
