Brussels, the city of traffic jams?

Activity 1: Brussels, the city of traffic jams?

Who hasn't complained about traffic jams on the Brussels Ring or the city's inner ring road?

Who hasn't ever wondered why there is so much traffic congestion?

To answer these questions, we propose in this section to study the current structural features of Brussels' economy and the main phases of its historical development. Traffic jams are in fact closely linked to commuter travels and hence to the economic structure and labour market of Brussels as a whole.

To get started, we invite you to watch this introductory video in which the sociologist Michel Hubert summarises the issues covered in this section.
