Activity 3: European Brussels 

Brussels is not only the capital of various institutions within Belgium.

As you have learned in section 1, it also became the seat of the main European institutions in the second half of the 20th century, which is why it is often referred to as the 'capital of Europe', even though officially the European Union does not have a capital. These institutions were also established not far from Brussels Park, in what is now known as the "European quarter", which covers part of the former Leopold district and the area around the Schuman roundabout.
